EPIRB DCV CHANGES FROM JAN 21

New EPIRB rules from AMSA from 1st January 2021 for Domestic Commercial vessels operating beyond 2 nautical miles from land.

Here are a few definitions to assist you understanding the flow chart.

DCV:

Domestic Commercial Vessel

Level flotation:

Ensures that a boat is fitted with adequate and well-located flotation, meaning the vessel should float level with the waterline, providing a safer place of refuge in the case of swamping, flooding or capsize.

B Class Waters:

Offshore operations (within 200 nautical miles from the baseline of the Australian mainland, Tasmania, a recognised island but within the exclusive economic zone)

C Class Waters:

Restricted offshore operations (within 30 nautical miles from the baseline of the Australian mainland, Tasmania, a recognised island; within 50 nautical miles of the baseline of Queensland, within the Great Barrier Reef Region or the Torres Strait Zone; whilst remaining within the exclusive economic zone)
